Modern Rasputin: Märtha Louise of Norway and Shaman Durek
Märtha Louise, daughter of King Harald and Queen Sonja of Norway, has been a rebellious royal since her youth. As a young woman, she allegedly was the other woman in an English divorce case. Her father stepped in and asserted immunity so that she could avoid the shame of appearing in court. She later married Ari Behn, who took his own life on Christmas 2019. Ari Behn was a writer and a free spirit who was not considered a suitable choice of husband, much like Märtha Louise's sister-in-law, Mette-Marit, was criticized as an unsuitable choice for Crown Prince Haakon. Märtha Louise had divorced Ari some years before his death, although they seemed to be relatively close in parenting their three daughters.
Märtha Louise also considers herself a sensitive person. She has claimed she is able to speak with angels, and started an "angel school" where she claimed to teach others the same "gift." While she is trained in physiotherapy, she had not used this education and most of her businesses ventures have been focused on these "sensitive" gifts. This drew the ire of many Norwegians and Märtha Louise was asked to give up her title of "royal highness." Märtha Louise was seen by many as "kooky" until she began dating Shaman Durek in 2019.
Shaman Durek, who's real name is Durek Verett, is an American man who claims to be...a shaman. Durek believes that he and Märtha Louise are soulmates from past lives, being Egyptian pharaohs in their past lives. He is very effusive over their relationship on social media. Durek has connections in Hollywood, being friends with Gwyneth Paltrow and likely fueling some of her pseudoscience GOOP fantasies. Durek claims that he is of Norwegian and Haitian descent, although there seems to be no basis for these claims. He also claims he comes from a long line of shamans, which again, there is no evidence to support this statement. He claims that he was told that he would marry a Norwegian princess and unexpectedly, he found the only one his age! He also claims that he was introduced to spirituality by a woman named Princess Susana von Radic of Croatia.
Before meeting Märtha Louise, Durek was supposedly in a long term relationship with a man who has subsequently spoken out that Durek became a different person after a kidney transplant in 2012. The man claims to rag Se og Hør that Durek was physically and verbally abusive towards him. The pair were allegedly sued by their landlord over abuse and black magic, that was settled out of court. Durek tried to get him to sign a nondisclosure agreement so this information wouldn't make its way to the press. The man's hope of warning Märtha Louise has not apparently worked.
Märtha Louise and Durek teamed up together to have a speaking tour called "The Princess and the Shaman" which angered Norwegians. The Court put an end to Märtha Louise capitalizing on her royal connections for good, not letting her use the Princess moniker.
However Durek continues to embarrass the Norwegian Court. On his podcast called "Ancient Wisdom Today" he spilled details of his sex life with the princess. In the episode he discusses how he holds back semen so he can have sex multiple times a day and that the semen recirculates in his body. He also claims that women who have multiple sex partners need to be cleansed Supposedly the king and queen were very unhappy and pressured him to delete the episode.
Should Märtha Louise and Durek continue their relationship, one can only hope that her three daughters are not embarrassed by their antics and have a strong support system from their family. As they have recently lost their father, the young girls' well being is more important than any romance.
